It's been over two decades since Heartbeat first graced our screens on ITV. The nostalgic drama, set in the 1960s North Yorkshire, gave us a glimpse into the lives of police officers, medical staff and other residents of Ashfordly and Aidensfield.

The show was a massive hit with viewers, running for an impressive 18 series from 1992 to 2010. Despite no new episodes being produced for over ten years, Heartbeat remains one of ITV's most cherished dramas, with fans still tuning in to watch reruns on ITV3.

The show played a pivotal role in launching the careers of many actors, who went on to star in popular soaps, films and theatre productions. Among these stars was Southport actor David Lonsdale, who portrayed the lovable David Stockwell.

Known for his humorous storylines, often revolving around his clumsiness or gullibility, David Stockwell quickly became a fan favourite, appearing on the show for over a decade. He served as the right-hand man to Claude Greengrass, Vernon Scripps, and finally Peggy Armstrong.

Originally living with Claude Greengrass, he took over his home when he emigrated. Vernon Scripps then moved in with David, until his departure from the series, reports the Liverpool Echo.

David's final house guest was Peggy Armstrong, affectionately known as 'Aunt Peggy'. In addition to Heartbeat, David Lonsdale has had numerous notable TV and film roles.

He appeared as the Repossession Man in the 1997 film The Full Monty and has had roles in soaps such as Coronation Street, Emmerdale and Hollyoaks.

The 61 year old actor has recently been seen in roles such as Phil Annerly in the ITV drama Vera and Les Dolding in The Thief, His Wife and the Canoe. He also took on the role of a Police Sergeant in the Downton Abbey film.

Off-screen, he's graced the stage in pantomimes like Aladdin at Southport Theatre. David has enjoyed over three decades of marriage and is a father to three children.
