Blue Jays complete trade for Josh Smith, Josh Stephan as Adam Macko heads to Rangers

The Toronto Blue Jays have acquired infielder Josh Smith and minor league right-hander Josh Stephan from the Texas Rangers in exchange for left-handed reliever Adam Macko.

The trade was first reported by the Dallas Morning News, with both clubs confirming the deal later on Monday.

Macko made his Major League Baseball debut for Toronto this season, posting a 4.91 ERA with 23 strikeouts and 10 walks across 22 innings.

The Slovakian-Canadian pitcher, who was raised in Alberta and developed at the Vauxhall Academy of Baseball, joined the Blue Jays in 2022 as part of the trade that sent Teoscar Hernandez to the Seattle Mariners.

Smith arrives in Toronto under team control through the 2028 season.

The 28-year-old enjoyed two productive offensive campaigns before struggling this year, batting .213 with a .299 on-base percentage and a .272 slugging percentage. He also brings defensive versatility, having played all four infield positions as well as corner outfield during his career.

The Blue Jays also receive 24-year-old right-handed starter Josh Stephan, who has recorded a 5.44 ERA with 97 strikeouts and 31 walks over 101 innings at Triple-A this season.
