Sonic 3 Director Teases Another Character Reveal At The End Of The Movie

But who will it be?

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (the movie, not the game) is set to speed into cinemas on 21st December and it looks like director Jeff Fowler is already laying the groundwork for what's to come next.

Both 2020's Sonic the Hedgehog and its 2022 sequel finished by teasing a character that would have a big part to play in the follow-up — Tails the first time around and Shadow the second — and it seems that the third entry will be no different.

In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, Fowler teased, "This movie is no different in terms of teasing new characters" and "We've all got our favourites on the filmmaking side".

According to Fowler, the conversations behind the camera are much the same as the speculation you find online, however he naturally wants to "keep that anticipation" until the film hits cinemas next month.

It's fun to see the fan debates online about who's coming up next, who's going to be teased at the end of the film. We have a lot of the same conversations. We've all got our favourites on the filmmaking side, and we're all making great cases for 'it should be this one or that one.' It is fun to keep that anticipation. This movie is no different in terms of teasing new characters.

Gah, and there we were hoping that Fowler would cough up a name! Amy feels like the last big character yet to make the jump to the big screen, but the bag of potential Sonic cameos is a deep one, so we're not ready to rule anyone out just yet.

At the time of writing, there's no official confirmation that 'Sonic the Hedgehog 4' is happening at Paramount, but given the success of the first two films, we think it's safe to say that the third entry will pull in a big ol' stack of Rings too. Yeah, teasing another movie feels like a good bet.

I think it will be Amy, and the villian of the next movie will be Metal Sonic. It seems like the natural progression for the story.

Amy Rose, Big the Cat, and Rouge the Bat are practically the only characters I can think of as being additions that make sense to me. Maybe Silver the Hedgehog. Or Metal Sonic? Past that batch, no offense to the other characters, but no one else is really essential “main Sonic cast.” I know others may disagree, but the average person isn’t going to probably recognize Vector or Blaze.

Maybe the Chaos?

Sage would be interesting if they cross promo with Frontiers 2?

The next movie should be called Sonic and Knuckles. And if you own any of the first 3 movies, you unlock bonus content.

Curious to see who they'll tease at the end of this movie - Amy and/or Metal Sonic would make the most sense as others have already mentioned, but you never know!

I'd imagine probably Amy, biggest name there's no real sign of yet. I guess you could maybe do Chaos or Sage but while those present interesting storytelling possibilities not sure they'd be the biggest sequel hooks for general audiences.

I'd like to see Metal Sonic debut, on the condition that Amy doesn't come with it because I find her insufferable.

My money is on Silver.

The only way I’ll accept Silver is if he comes with the second best Sonic character Blaze. Actually, the fact we haven’t gotten a single female Sonic character is kinda ridiculous, Amy really should be here already, especially with how much more Sega’s been pushing her lately

Would love for Amy to turn up, get kidnapped and Sonic and the gang would have to go through Metal to save her. Sure, it would basically just be Sonic CD in movie form, but I'm sure no one would have a problem with that 😉👌

I have a strong feeling that it’ll be Silver. Adapting the story of Sonic 06 into a film could actually be pretty intriguing. SEGA doesn’t seem overly embarrassed by the game either, as its events, characters, and locations are frequently referenced in other Sonic titles.

That's not true — Maria will appear in the third film. I know she's human, but she's an official Sonic character.

I'd be most hyped to see Metal Sonic, Amy, Blaze, maybe Mecha Sonic as well. Think Chaos would also be interesting but dunno if that would hit general audiences as hard. Feel like Metal Sonic is super cool even if you've never seen him before.

I'd love to see how they'd handle Silver in one of these movies.

You're gonna hear "It's no use." Then Silver the Hedgehog will beat Sonic senseless.

@AStupidID Even though Mecha Sonic probably won’t appear, the sheer amounts of hype I’d feel (especially as a SMBZ fan) would be unmatched.

Big the Cat and Froggy. Chaos possessed Froggy will be the big bad of Sonic 4.

Wait, I misspoke, the Fishing Game will be the big bad of Sonic 4.

I think there are only 2 likely options for a sequel, Amy and Metal basically Sonic CD or Silver for 06. which in Silvers case I think holds more weight since 06 has a way bigger story presence than CD.

The unlikely third option the 06 story, with Amy replacing Princess Elise.

Either it's Mighty the Armadillo, Amy Rose, or Silver the Hedgehog but I'll be super surprise if it's Sally Acorn.

@TheMainMii That unlikely third option sounds the most likely to me idk. I'm not sure I can see them doing Metal Sonic right after Shadow, it might be too derivative to have another "Sonic, but evil" character - and if they follow the current characterisation, he'd be mute and thus a downgrade. Silver has a bit of a different angle as a rival character, and I think they know they have to introduce Amy ASAP after this.

Amy did play a key role in Silver's development in 06 so it'd fit imo. If they really want to delve deeper into the cast they could possibly make Blaze the princess in the story too, have a blend of the 06 and Rush storylines.

In terms of teasing a new antagonist that leads into the next story, logic suggests Metal Sonic. But I think we'll finally get Amy as well, including some other characters like Cream, Blaze and maybe E-123

@Orpheus79V Interesting you mentioned blaze, cause while the Rush games story is "there" i didnt mention it cause i was thinking it might not be enough. but her as the princess could very well work. Considering Blaze, and how the princess tears can release iblis. Which I think would be a perfect way to do it. Blaze - Iblis, it writes itself.

Personally hoping for Amy Rose or Rouge the Bat.

Or, if they want to delve into the Archie Comics series, Sally Acorn. Never did like how that storyline was rebooted and then abruptly cancelled in favor of a new storyline by IDW Comics. I so badly wanted to see Sonic defeat Eggman once and for all, restore Sally to her original form, and then finally have the two of them get married and live happily ever after.
