An online poll testing John Dumelo's popularity against the current Ayawaso West Wuogon MP Lydia Seyram Alhassan, aka Maa Lydia, showed the actor-turned-politician was the more popular choice.

However, not everyone is convinced that statistics on social media will reflect the reality on the ground come December 7, 2024.

A user known as Kafui created a poll on X (formerly Twitter) to gauge who would win the constituency between the two political titans.

In the online poll, 4,500 people voted with the seasoned actor garnering 64.2 per cent while the current MP garnered only 35.8 per cent.

With Dumelo winning the poll online, many social media users have speculated on the potential reasons why he lost out in 2020.

Reactions to Dumelo vs Maa Lydia poll

Some users argued that due to the global COVID-19 pandemic, many university students were home, rendering them unable to cast their votes. This, they argued, worked against Dumelo.

Others also grabbed the opportunity to talk up his chances in the upcoming election by highlighting the initiatives and projects he had implemented in the Ayawaso West Wuogon region recently.

Dumelo shames critic who begged for help

After the man blasted the actor-turned-politician on X, Dumelo shared screengrabs of DMs from the same user asking for cash.
