IFPDA Continues to Expand with 2027 Edition, Lining Up 76 Exhibitors

Seventy-six exhibitors will take part in the International Fine Prints & Drawings Association 2027 fair, up more than 20 percent from its 2024 edition. Among the 14 exhibitors new to the fair and/or association are White Cube, Gladstone, Sikkema Malloy Jenkins, Nancy Hoffman Gallery, and Jill Newhouse Gallery. Drawings will account for roughly a quarter of the fair, which runs April 8–11, with at least 19 exhibitors showing them.

The additions are notable for a fair that, not long ago, was looking to fill booths. Every available booth was booked almost immediately after applications went out to IFPDA’s roughly 150 members in May, according to the association. Jenny Gibbs, IFPDA’s executive director, said that when the fair returned to the Armory in 2024, after five years at the Javits Center, “we had booths to fill.” This year, she said, galleries including White Cube and Gladstone came looking for space.

Gibbs sees that demand as part of a larger change in how the art world thinks about prints.

“Honestly, the attitude shift has been dramatic,” Gibbs told ARTnews. “Ten years ago, prints were mostly considered as the entry point you graduated out of—a side hustle for galleries and a footnote in museum collections. That’s completely flipped.”

She pointed to Hauser & Wirth, David Zwirner, White Cube, and Gladstone, all of which now have editions programs. “That’s the art world admitting works on paper are worth the real estate,” Gibbs said.

That change is increasingly visible at IFPDA itself. The association, founded in 1987 as an organization devoted to prints, expanded its mandate last year to include drawings, the first major change to its bylaws since 1990. The 2026 fair was the first under the new International Fine Prints & Drawings Association name; in 2027, the expansion will be considerably more apparent.

Jill Newhouse Gallery, a new IFPDA member, will devote its booth entirely to drawings, ranging from Delacroix to Matisse. Gladstone will bring drawings and editions by artists including Robert Rauschenberg, Pope.L, Joan Jonas, Elizabeth Murray, and Matthew Barney. Sikkema Malloy Jenkins, in its IFPDA debut, will mount a solo presentation of Louis Fratino editions alongside works on paper by Kara Walker, Wardell Milan, and Yashua Klos. White Cube, another first-timer, will show work by Christine Ay Tjoe, Danh Vo, Etel Adnan, Beatriz Milhazes, and others.

The expansion beyond prints is also showing up in IFPDA’s programming. This October, what had previously been called Print Month becomes Prints & Drawings Month, folding drawings-focused programming into the annual series.

Among the programs is “Drawn Together: Collections in Conversation,” an October 19 discussion with curators from the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Princeton University Art Museum, and the Chazen Museum of Art at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. All three institutions have recently renovated or rehung their collections, raising the question: How should prints and drawings hang alongside paintings and sculptures?

Gibbs said that museums are beginning to answer that question. “When the Met hangs a Rembrandt etching in their European paintings galleries, they’re teaching a new audience that works on paper belong in the same conversation,” she said. “What we’re seeing is a structural change.”
