Marie-Christine Statz was yearning for lightness, and infused Gauchere’s minimalist tailoring DNA with an airy touch, evoking movement and enhancing multipurpose wearability for spring. “There’s definitely tailoring, but nothing rigid,” she summed up ahead of her presentation at the brand’s headquarters.

Continuing her exploration of the busy lifestyles of the women around her — her casting included a number of friends of the house — she put together a practical yet sharp wardrobe for girls on the go, contrasting breezy pastel shades like butter yellow and muted mauve with black, gray and beige as well as the odd pop of red.

Her suit jackets were replaced with shirt versions or sleeveless iterations, and fabrics included viscose, crinkled Japanese nylon and draped poplin, creating a sense of movement and a sportier feel, with silver popper hardware and piping details to punctuate the minimalist lineup.

These were contrasted with a multitude of looks in synthetic leather true to the brand’s polished yet edgy urban vibe, like straight pants, boxy shorts and an ample shirt jacket styled as a dress, as well as an appealing selection of scrunchable purses. Rectangular crop tops and simple A-line mid-calf skirts in heavy jersey were minimalist, but less structured.

A number of designs were worn closer to the body than Gauchere’s usual style as Statz highlighted the midriff, leaving it exposed under an open shirt or punctuated by the pairing of a belted sleeveless top tucked into matching pants to create a dual waistline.
