Denim’s practicality and versatility were displayed at London Fashion Week, where attendees navigated the city in blue jeans.

Layering was a popular strategy for dealing with the city’s famously unpredictable weather. Sweaters and vests were styled with washed blue jeans, while a leather bomber jacket and red button-down shirt popped against classic ’90s straight-leg jeans. Another person paired an oversized blue button-down shirt with dark-wash wide-leg jeans for a laid-back, effortless look.

Oversized proportions underscored the emphasis on comfort. One attendee styled his baggy vintage-wash jeans, which puddled over his shoes, with a wide-cut blazer, extra-large tote bag and oversized sunglasses. Another allowed her Ahluwalia laser-printed jeans to drag along the ground.

Laser prints also emerged as a way to make a statement. Ahluwalia’s printed denim coordinates were a popular choice among attendees at the brand’s runway show. Another person wore jeans with a liquid-like swirl print.

Statement washes also stood out, including high-contrast bleached indigo jeans and faded black jeans with a pinstripe print. Others chose a quieter, nature-inspired palette. Brown and tan shades appeared on belted workwear jackets and relaxed-fit jeans.

Fashion week attendees also experimented with trims. For example, a jean skirt with a high slit featured denim braiding along the hem, and black tassels were stitched to the waistline of a pair of denim trousers.
