Skin care brand Barefaced, founded by nurse practitioner Jordan Harper, is expanding into personalized medical skin care with the launch of Barefaced Rx.
Debuting Thursday, the platform offers clinician-guided prescription treatment for a range of skin concerns spanning acne and breakouts, redness and inflammation, pigmentation and tone, skin aging, menopause and hormonal skin changes, targeted eye care, and body care and brightening.
“This is truly a dream,” Harper said in an interview, explaining that she had tried to do this in 2021 but it was difficult as Barefaced was growing so fast.

“From my experience as a nurse practitioner, there is a percentage of patients that are going to benefit from prescription products. Now, it’s not everyone, but I do,” she continued. “Most brands are just an RX platform or just an over-the-counter platform. That’s their thing. But for me, I wanted to make sure that we can fully offer our patients a solution for their skin, no matter where they are.”
Patients complete an online survey covering their skin concerns, history, current routine and goals, which is reviewed by a clinician licensed in their state. When prescription treatment is appropriate, the clinician determines the treatment plan and formula, with the patient receiving ongoing access to their provider through secure messaging and the ability to adjust treatment as their skin evolves.
The cash-pay model includes a free intake with no membership or consultation fee, with treatment delivered directly to the patient.
While this is online only for now, Harper sees brick and mortar in its future, whether that’s in the form of a pop up or a more permanent presence in a couple of key cities.
