A very British rivalry kicked off on the village green for Maximilian Raynor’s spring show, but these athletes aren’t looking to score a goal — they’re dressing to impress.

He imagined what the supporters of this battle of fashion could wear to the face-off. Onlookers had their pick of two teams for this collection, dubbed “The Gingers vs The Elders: A Village Green Rivalry.”

Glass soda bottles filled with sparkling elderflower and ginger beer from sponsor Belvoir Farm were served to guests milling through the looping knit set woven in washed pink and yellow, mirroring Raynor’s vision of light filtering through elderflower branches.

Models wove around a 1968 T-Series Bentley, its era influencing details such as ‘60s dagger collars on the beige and salmon-colored menswear coats. Throughout, the lineup reimagined women’s sportswear, layering a pink-and-yellow mini ruffled crochet skirt over plaid tracksuit balloon pants with a matching zip-up jacket. A model wore a gingham polo cinched with a tailored tie and tucked into a knitted calf-length skirt that swung with light pink tassels. Raynor’s signature textile ribbon designs appeared in a black asymmetrical skirt and closed the show in a corseted pink ribbon gown.

As intricate as it was, all this will be available as ready-to-wear, a first for the London-based designer, who told WWD after the show that it had taken him “a long time to learn the real system.”

“As a Saint Martin’s graduate, that’s not what we’re taught really,” he continued. “It’s how to be bold and interesting and make new things. And then when you do that new thing in a fabric that you can’t buy it again…So this is the season where if people want to buy, [they] can buy.”
