Edeline Lee Spring 2027: Step and Repeat

If endless unseen hours spent honing one’s craft toward a moment’s reveal sounds familiar to those in fashion, its parallel with ballet stayed with Edeline Lee.

“I think ballet is the ultimate example of a Sisyphean myth where they are laboring and laboring for that one little moment of perfection and joy, and it reminded me also of our industry,” the designer said at her spring showcase, an atelier recreated alongside the wall of a school’s fencing studio.

Having her team retouch, dress and send out models in full view was a way to highlight the many hands that contribute to a collection, some of which have been in the industry far longer than Lee herself, she remarked. Broadcast on screens set up around the space was a film that followed dancers in a choreography by Xolisweh Ana Richards.

Dance had Lee thinking about the “horizontal” movement of tutus and dancers lifting their legs high, and pushed her to think of “lightness, shape and movement,” she said. That yielded a practice sweater, a purple blazer trimmed with black ribbon or a high-neck sleeveless dress augmented with stiff tutu shapes. A green and ivory dress in crinkled georgette looked like something you’d want to twirl in, as demonstrated by one of the season’s models — first principal dancer Sangeun Lee, of the English National Ballet.
