“Keep it moving,” said Verena Tremel, founder of the Rituel Pilates studio in the Latin Quarter where Julie de Libran staged her fall show. Her voice, a lilting cadence of counted beats and encouragements to breathe or move, served as the soundtrack to a breezy collection that focused on movement and a sense of freedom.

Backstage, the couture designer described the space as part of her personal ritual, as a reminder of “how when your body feels good, then your mind is clear, and you can be aligned,” she said.

Not only did she want to outfit bodies in motion, but she also wanted to make sure those moves were seen, playing with sequins, cloqué metallic fabric or the sheen of silks in various weights.

As ever, she favored flattering shapes although this time cut a tad closer to the body, and occasionally showing skin through plays of transparency. Trousers were also more numerous than before, congruent with her idea of freeing the wearer as much as possible.

Standouts included a form-fitting little black dress with a sweetheart neckline, made from raffia zhuzhed up with large glossy sequins; a shirtdress with snap fastenings that shivered with every step thanks to its metallic threads that had been combed out and hand-trimmed into soft contrasting layers; a long and loose shirt made of hand-cut silk leaves, and a denim saharienne-style jacket paired with a crisp poplin shirtdress that could also be unbuttoned all the way at the front, sides and back, with a pencil skirt worn as an underlayer.

Elsewhere, de Libran dabbled in hybrids, splicing a fluffy knitted white vest into a smart boxy jacket; cutting the lower part of a peacoat from golden cloqué, and bisecting a houndstooth suit with a beaded net on the midriff and lace trims at the sleeves and hem. They hinted at a dab hand who feels the best way to keep hallowed crafts and techniques in circulation is to hold them dear but not be too precious with them.
