Man-made cellulosic fibers all come from wood, but the manufacturing process result in slightly different fiber attributes.

In the denim world, the more predominant or widely recognized wood-based fiber is lyocell. However, some mills are using modal for denim fabrics to achieve qualities like super-soft next-to-skin comfort and drape. Modal also opens opportunities for product development, such as dope-dyed fibers for no-fade black denim.
