David Koma delved back to why he loves designing in the first place for resort 2027. “It was about rediscovering the joy of creation,” he said during a preview.

He loves it all, like a fresh grad — from curating the mood board, which included an image of Richard Avedon’s “Nastassja Kinski and Serpent” to hand sketching, draping on the body, and constructing the pieces within his Shoreditch studio, a luxury few London-based brands can afford these days.

Koma said he started the collection with the idea of movement, especially among pole dancers, which involves a high level of athleticism. Many pieces were draped directly on the body for maximum sensuality, with standouts being poolside-ready dresses embellished with structured ruffles or lightweight metallic chains.

His insistence on the concept of “full authorship” this season also extended beyond the clothes. Even the most trained eye won’t be able to tell that the model in the look book is not human but generated using new digital tools.

It was meant to “explore the space between imagination and image, while the garments remain firmly rooted in craftsmanship and reality. Digital tech is another creative medium within my process,” Koma said.

That said, physical touch points remained crucial. On Tuesday night, Maya Jama, a muse of the brand, previewed a transparent sequin python-print dress at the Serpentine summer party, bridging Koma’s virtual ideal and IRL star power.
