Kim Bekker has left bohemia behind — at least for now — and is focusing on an urban landscape, where a woman needs to dash between appointments, and cut through the crowds with style. Her collection was practical — but also sensual — and more suited to the everyday than the holiday.
Bekker likes designing for a frenetic lifestyle. She said her fall collection was for a “bubbly, fresh, sassy woman who’s running from show to show,” living life at high speed and having fun. Although the resort collection was more formal than fall, it was still built to perform.
“I wanted to project a very graphic, precise image, and to make ‘real’ clothes” for everyday, said the designer, adding the collection “embraces everything about the Isabel Marant woman. It goes to the very core of who we are and what we do.”

Tailoring nodded to the ’80s, with statement jackets in different proportions. Bekker paired a dark wool, hourglass one with broad shoulders and a nipped waist with a short flouncy skirt. A more fitted white jacket, made from a blend of stretch cotton and linen, came with two shiny black buttons placed slightly off-kilter.
Other looks, including a red windbreaker, belted coatdress and carrot pants, were bright and shiny enough to stop traffic — always good for women running a few minutes late.
It wasn’t all sharp-edged. Bekker offset all of that commanding structure with softer looks, including a draped, hooded caramel leather jacket with faux fur lining, an ecru jersey dress with strong shoulders and ruching around the hips, and a delicate, rippling cape-cum-blouse with an abstract animal pattern done in black and white.
Bekker also riffed on her beloved Capri pants, adding little ties at the sides of the calf. For those who prefer to look more Annie Hall than Audrey Hepburn, there were wide-leg, cream trousers; low-slung, pleated-front ones, and caramel denim, all made for those days that don’t seem to end.
