When Hermès opened a long-term pop-up in Williamsburg three years ago, the plan was always to eventually open a permanent space.

That time is now.

On Saturday, the French luxury house will open its 44th U.S. store at North Sixth Street. The two-level space features the brand’s 16 métiers in a space designed to pay homage to the neighborhood’s industrial past.

Five distinct facades have been installed on the outside of the large brick building. Once inside, the store features high ceilings, raw brick, gray terrazzo and metalwork that complements the silk offering as well as the fashion jewelry, perfume, beauty and the men’s and women’s footwear located on the first floor. Further back is the home area.

A double-height brick mural flanks a staircase reminiscent of New York City fire escapes that leads to the second floor, where jewelry and watches are displayed along with the men’s and women’s ready-to-wear, equestrian collections and leather goods.

“We have long been convinced there’s tremendous potential for Hermès in Williamsburg and have nurtured meaningful creative and cultural relationships over many years in Brooklyn as well as communication events such as a men’s fashion show and an immersive event, HermèsFit,” said Diane Mahady, president and chief executive officer of Hermès Americas. “The pop-up featuring accessories-only was an important first step in our journey. It allowed us to get to know the neighborhood intimately, meet members of the community and ensure we had found the right home. We never wanted to rush that process.”

She added that the design of the new boutique on the corner of Berry Street “reflects the atmosphere and identity of Williamsburg, drawing inspiration from the neighborhood’s character and architecture while staying true to the craftsmanship and spirit of the house. We are also excited to establish an artist windows program at the store which will allow us to celebrate the work of local Brooklyn artists.”

The store was designed by Parisian architecture agency RDAI. It replaces the pop-up that closed at the beginning of this year.
