Shiatzy Chen described her spring 2027 collection backstage as a tribute to the orchid, one of the Four Gentlemen, a group of plants that also includes plum blossom, bamboo, and chrysanthemum and are celebrated in East Asian culture.

The frequently appearing orchid brooches, shaped to resemble butterflies, could also have been a nod to Butterflies in Love With Flowers, a popular cipai, a tune pattern in classical Chinese lyric poetry that flourished during the Song Dynasty.

Chen did not simply decorate the clothes with literal orchid imagery. The Taiwanese designer, known for her East-meets-West approach, translated the flower’s long leaves, curved stems, and quiet strength into layered, fluid silhouettes. Couture-inspired techniques gave the designs an artisanal finish, echoing the orchid’s associations with elegance and refinement.

Shirts, jackets and skirts appeared in elongated layers. Sculpted collars framed the shoulders and neck, while A-line hems and slim silhouettes balanced structure with lightness. She also played with soft, flowing fabrics for an easy, athleisure feel.
