Celebrities Talk Nuts, Nicknames and How Best to Relieve Anxiety at Dior

This season’s invitation to Jonathan Anderson’s Dior show, a pair of Wenwan walnuts, traditionally used as a fidget toy in China, got some of the front-row guests musing as they waited for the seats to fill up and the show to start — which happened only when Rihanna arrived 45 minutes after the scheduled start time.

“I brought my nuts,” quipped Dree Hemingway, pulling hers from inside her purse before explaining that for close friends, her nickname is Squirrel. “I actually have a company named Squirrel Productions, so this is very fitting,” said the actress.

“I don’t normally fondle nuts I have to say,” admitted Ever Anderson outside the venue, who turns to drawing when she wants to relax. Pebbles, however, are another matter. “To wind down, honestly, I love drawing, painting on rocks,” said the actress, who has just wrapped two movies due out next year, including “My Boyfriend Is a Demon,” alongside David and Rosanna Arquette. “When I used to live at home it would drive my mom nuts because there would just be like all these painted rocks that I gathered from outside. I’ve kind of kept that up in my apartment.”

It’s cool to see this old piece of history being brought into the fashion world; it’s a really fun crossover for me,” she said. Her own recipe for fighting anxiety? “I sleep, 10 hours a night at least,” she said.

British-Nigerian actor Toheeb Jimoh had already adopted the gadget for its anxiety-soothing properties, meanwhile. “You’re going to see me in six years’ time still rolling those things together. I was doing it this morning and it just really stilled me,” said the rising actor, who generally looks to sports or reading to wind down. Jimoh, who won both a Screen Actors Guild Award and a Critics Choice Breakthrough Award for his performance as Sam Obisanya in the Apple TV+ series “Ted Lasso,” has just finished a show called “Open Water” for the BBC, and his feature “Clarissa” debuts at the London Film Festival next week. For the premiere, “Maybe I’ll be stealing something from this runway,” he said.
