Alo has opened its first temporary retail project in mainland China, located at Shanghai‘s historic Zhangyuan district.

The three-level space, which was previously a pop-up for Dior, then Celine, combines retail, fitness, wellness and community events that the brand said “translates its Los Angeles heritage through the distinct energy and cultural landscape of Shanghai.”

For Summer Nacewicz, Alo’s executive vice president of marketing and creative, the store will become a full expression of the brand’s belief in how Alo wants to redefine luxury. “Luxury is about how you live and how you feel,” said Nacewicz.

“It [the Zhangyuan store] is more than a place to shop—it’s a place to move, reset and connect, and to experience the full Alo world,” Nacewicz added.

Zhangyuan, once a playground for celebrities and the leisure class almost a century ago, has been transformed into an outdoor retail hotspot with standalone garden villa houses with Western elements. For Alo, its brand of luxe lifestyle includes a customized vintage Ford Bronco, a poolside lounge, an Alo Café, and lots of holistic experiences.

The first floor, the Alo retail space, is home to the brand’s latest women’s and men’s apparel, footwear, and accessories collections. In serene rooms upstairs, guests can participate in meditation and sound therapy classes, as well as workout sessions. A spa room then offers special treatments for recovery, circulation and deep relaxation. The third floor, an airy attic space, is a yoga and pilates studio.

To celebrate the launch, Alo invited its global brand ambassador Zhao Lusi and local celebrities including Bi Wenjun, Karena Ng, He Sui, Elaine Zhong, and Yu Chengen to an intimate gathering on Monday. The party was hosted on the same day as Nikeskims’ first China pop-up down the road, fueling an athleisure revival in the market.

Officially opening to the public on Thursday, the Zhangyuan pop-up is slated to operate until February 2027.

For shoppers, the second floor experiential area is set to open by invitation on Oct. 6, while the third floor will be open in mid-October. Guests can book a community event via Alo’s WeChat Mini Porgram.

The Zhangyuan store is the first of Alo’s “eight store, seven cities” strategy mapped out for mainland China. Starting with the K11 Musea flagship that opened last week in Hong Kong, seven additional stores, including the Zhangyuan door, will open at Shanghai’s HRKI Taikoo Hui flagship, Beijing’s China World Mall, Hong Kong’s Lee Gardens, Macao’s Galaxy Promenade flagship, Shenzhen’s Bay MixC flagship, Hangzhou’s in77 flagship and Taikoo’s Li Chengdu flagship.
