Huishan Zhang Spring 2027: Study in Seduction

Huishan Zhang’s spring 2027 collection started with an imagined encounter between American fashion photographer Deborah Turbeville and Chinese writer Eileen Chang, two very different personalities with lots in common.

Turbeville’s faded, soft-focus images and Chang’s elegant, sometimes cryptic writings converged in a wardrobe built on suggestion. “They are both very intellectual, and very deep in their own story. For me, it’s the meaning behind the moods they both introduced to the world, either through photography or love stories,” Zhang said during a preview.

That played out in semi-fitted dresses with a ’20s looseness, lace pieces that appeared revealing but were fully lined, and cheongsams reworked with jackets layered on top for a modern, elongated line. “It’s like playing a game of seduction. Sometimes what you don’t show can be more powerful than what you do,” he added.

The push-pull between structure and ease continued in fabrication. He toyed with brushed cotton that mimicked suede for trans-seasonal pieces, some decorated with intricate Chinese knot–inspired threadwork, while silk jumpers and denim broadened the brand’s daywear offer.

Zhang also highlighted a custom silk jacquard developed with historic British mill Stephen Walters, sitting alongside tweed adorned with luxurious embroidery by India’s Chanakya, and linen engineered with elastic that provided “wrinkle-free” comfort for his clients.
