Founder and creative director Salma Rachid was once again inspired by the art world for Retori’s Chapter 5. After Brazilian artist Gustavo Nazareno for the previous chapter, this collection was stimulated by Chinese American artist Ye Zhu and his monumental, tactile artworks built on shaped wooden panels layered with clay, ceramic, aluminum, natural fibers, and objects that merge painting, sculpture, and assemblage.
“His parents were immigrants from China, and they were gardeners, and he’s so inspired by the lessons learned from gardening, that he says can be applied to life,” said Rachid. “The whole concept of his art lies in the collection of memories and of things that people would usually throw away or forget about to create joyful pieces. This beautiful message of spreading joy through art and through craft really resonated with me.”
Cue the draped silhouettes shifting fluidly between structure and ease, echoing the artist’s organic compositions. The palette drew from his canvases — some of which were displayed at the Retori flagship in central Milan for the presentation — blending earthy and maritime hues, as well as butter, tobacco, and sand with lilac, ice blue, orange, and eggplant hues together with touches of metallic accents.

Retori’s signature double construction was once again a cornerstone of the sophisticated collection, reinterpreted in lightweight wool across both womenswear and menswear. A shawl collared coat was displayed with a deconstructed three-patch pocket jacket, while a sleek minidress with all-over back ruching flanked a sculptural bomber and softly tailored men’s suits, cotton poplin pajamas and bermudas in linen and silk blends.
There was also a fetching selection of draped gowns with soft ruffles and sculptural volumes in satin or with metallic fringes. Dresses with a beautiful print inspired by Zhu’s constellation motif in his “Mending River Body” artwork were rendered in champagne tones with platinum foiling and a nocturnal blue variation.
Retori, founded in 2024 by Rachid, is entirely made in Italy and is controlled by luxury Alsara Investment Group, established by Salma’s father Rachid Mohamed Rachid. It includes fashion and outerwear brand Khrisjoy; design venture Fromm, and eyewear company AKN Group, among others.
