The Met Gala is less than one week away, and anticipation is high for the extravagant off-the-runway spectacle that unfolds on its iconic carpet. Immediate press attention is always drawn to the first arrivals. Like in 2003, when Nicole Kidman cohosted the gala dinner and the Costume Institute exhibition opening, titled “Goddess,” alongside Tom Ford and Anna Wintour. Kidman arrived arm-in-arm with Oscar winner Adrien Brody — both outfitted in Gucci by Tom Ford. Kidman and Brody’s glamorous arrival earned them the coveted spot on WWD’s front page that year.
It remains a mystery who will seize the spotlight this year, whether arriving with a date, a “walker” — the term famously coined by WWD in the 1970s that refers to a gentleman accompanying a female friend to a social event when the invitation RSVP required a companion, and a formal date was not an option — or solo, it’s anyone’s guess. However, one thing is certain: WWD and its editors already have their eyes on a few bright stars and rising talents poised to create an unforgettable front page moment at this year’s gala.
