Kallmeyer Spring 2027: Lush in Possibility

A white long-sleeve T-shirt and densely beaded white skirt said a lot about Daniella Kallmeyer’s spring collection. One was almost defiantly ordinary; the other shimmered with a crosshatch of beads and dangling strands. With color taken out of the equation, texture did the talking. Together, they looked entirely natural.

That ease, between the quotidian and extraordinary, ran throughout. A richly worked jacket was thrown over light washed jeans; technical track jackets mingled with sweeping evening dresses; languid trousers pooled or gathered at the ankle. Beads, threads and ropes crossed sheer organza, while tactile knits sprouted fibers and fringe. Nothing seemed particularly interested in declaring its role. “As usual, this is a wardrobing collection,” Kallmeyer said backstage. “It was not meant to all be editorial.”

It’s an attitude that speaks to an idea of the new American woman that has been coalescing for several seasons and is already gaining further definition in New York: global-minded and self-possessed, concerned with dress without needing to broadcast it. Kallmeyer has been helping shape that conversation, and here her vision of that woman felt especially capacious.

The why came from two disparate references: a book on Japanese packaging techniques and the work of Colombian textile artist Olga de Amaral. Both offered lessons in transforming humble materials through painstaking manipulation. “I was just transfixed by these two manipulations of materials in order to create something that feels quite extraordinary,” Kallmeyer said.

“We really pushed and pushed and pushed,” she added of testing the limits of “artistic craft and ornateness,” before countering them with “the severity of our lines.” That friction kept all the handwork from becoming precious. Fabric was folded, bound, twisted and released around the body; familiar ideas around sport grew more sophisticated; knitwear, once a “palate cleanser” in the Kallmeyer wardrobe, became increasingly expressive, while evening gained sweep, transparency and intricacy.

There’s a sense of life expanding around Kallmeyer as well. Newly married, with an uptown store, a growing business and team, she is broadening her own orbit as the collection gains dimension. Shoes debuted alongside new iterations of the Magazine Tote. Nominated for a CFDA award in 2025, the brand is expanding, “but what I don’t get to talk about enough is that the team has grown so much.”

Kallmeyer described the collection as encompassing “all of the different ends of the spectrum” of her woman. She has long considered how a person inhabits clothes; increasingly, it feels as though the clothes are inhabiting the world alongside them. Work, travel, ease, ceremony, the everyday and the exceptional all have a place. The result was lush, not in excess, but in possibility.
