HAPPY ANNIVERSARY: Alaïa joined the scores of designers commemorating Bergdorf Goodman‘s 125th anniversary with exclusive products and nostalgic pieces.
The Parisian luxury design house has created a six-piece capsule collection for BG’s milestone that officials said “brings together iconic creations and archival silhouettes.” The capsule includes an A-line pony-hair leather coat in rich chocolate, a black-and-silver studded skater skirt and matching dress, a contemporary sweater engineered in an innovative knit, a sculptural body-con dress in deep green velvet and a chocolate dress featuring the legendary V-shape first unveiled on the 1982 runway.

Bergdorf Goodman and Alaïa have partnered together since 1981, when the legendary and late Bergdorf fashion director Dawn Mello spotted Paris fashion editors wearing Azzedine Alaïa to shows. Recognizing a transformative talent, Mello invited the designer to New York in 1982 when he staged a fashion show inside Bergdorf’s. The event marked Alaïa’s debut in New York and was photographed from the audience by Andy Warhol. According to Bergdorf’s, customers responded with such enthusiasm that Alaïa’s line at the store sold out within two days, “instantly cementing Alaïa’s connection.”
