Jamie Collins made vile threats to a family member and subjected an ex-partner to domestic abuse

A twisted Renfrewshire brute has been jailed after he made threats to “slap about” a family member and domestically abused a former partner.

Jamie Collins engaged in a vile course of conduct towards his ex-partner and a family member over the course of a near two-year period.

The 33-year-old sent abusive and threatening text messages, made threats of violence and posted sickening stories on social media between October 2022 and May 2024.

Procurator fiscal depute Jason Stark told Paisley Sheriff Court Collins had been charged with domestic abuse and placing another woman in a state of fear or alarm.

The court heard on October 7, 2023, Collins attended a nail salon in Johnstone where one woman had been attending an appointment.

Entering the salon, he said he was “going to slap her about and wait outside for her”.

Mr Stark added: “On February 11, 2024, the complainer was driving her vehicle home from work when she observed the accused in a vehicle approach her and block her from exiting the junction.

“Collins put the driver window down and made a gun-like gesture with his hand. He pointed this at [the victim] and pretended to shoot before driving off.

“The complainer then drove home and noted the same vehicle was travelling behind her at speed. She then observed him to block her and exited his vehicle and approached the vehicle and began elbowing and punching the window causing it to crack.”

The town’s court also heard how on February 24, the same woman received a missed call from an unknown number and then received a text message which she replied to asking who it was from. she received a reply, which stated: “You’ll find out shortly, you know what to do. Save yourself the grief from having to look over your shoulder, we’ve been watching you, enjoy walking your dog. One word and it’s done.”

The court heard the complainer sent these messages onto the police as she feared they were from Collins. The brute then targeted the woman again on March 18 when she was in a sunbed shop. He entered the shop and shouted: “Your son will get his jaw ripped and something bad will happen.”

The court heard how his former partner took out an interdict prior to these offences in October 2022 which restricted Collins from various addresses and contacting the family.

Mr Stark explained Collins began posting derogatory remarks about his former partner on social media in February 2024 and again on May .

Mr Stark added: “The accused posted a newspaper story about a person being abducted, tortured and dumped at the Gleniffer Braes. He had captioned this, ‘This is how grasses get dealt with’. This was reported to the police and he was traced and arrested.”

Defence agent Terry Gallanagh told the court Collins “is not the brightest candle on the birthday cake” but is “extremely remorseful”.

He added: “He completely understands what he did was frightening. He accepts custody is the only alternative available.”

Sheriff Gillian Craig slammed Collins stating: “Your vendetta against the complainer would have been highly alarming for her. You made threats of violence, blocked her car and struck her car. She must have been highly alarmed.

“What I’m most concerned about in this case is your reference to torturing and killing grasses, stating grasses was the complainer in this case. There is no alternative than a custodial sentence.”

Sheriff Craig jailed caged Collins for 16 months backdating this to his date of remand on May 8. A non-harassment order was made for five years preventing him from contacting, communicating with or approaching both victims.
