A Scots granny wowed the audience on the The Voice with an old hip-hop classic.

Bette Reynolds, 76, became the show's oldest ever contestant as she performed Sugarhill Gang's Rapper's Delight for judges Sir Tom Jones, Will.i.am, LeAnn Rimes and Tom Fletcher and Danny Jones.

Bette has been recruited to the McFly team with Tom and Danny and will now move on to the battle phase of the hit ITV show.

The granny, who has been living in Canada, has been singing since she was five-years-old but hadn't been on stage since 1966.

She had been caring for her husband round-the-clock in recent years as he battled dementia but after he passed away earlier this year she decided to turned to music to pass the time.

Speaking on the show tonight, Bette said: I've been singing since I was five. I was actually classically trained. This is just a sideline.

"My grandchildren listen to rap and I thought, maybe I should try it."

Her son Stewart posted on X, formerly know as Twitter, and said his mum has also released two songs this year and is filming a Christmas video.

He said: "She was 24/7 caregiver for my Dad who had dementia for years. Dad died in January. She filmed The Voice UK in February. She released 2 songs since and we just finished filming her Christmas music video. She’s an inspiration."

Other users on X lined up to praise the rapping granny.

Maria said: "Bette Reynolds is an absolute delight."

Ruci Utonivesi commented: "Bette Reynolds at 76 certainly lit the stage and audience on fire. I could feel her vibe coming through the telly tonight."

Roxanne Reid said: "Bette Reynolds is living her best life. Such an inspiration, hope you love her as much as I do"
