Scots jazz singer's new single raising funds for children in warzones

Evelyn Laurie is hoping to help children in the worst positions imaginable in war-torn situations.

A Scots jazz singer is raising funds for children in war zones through her newly released cover of a much-loved rock song..

Evelyn Laurie, from Paisley, has released a cover of Rare Bird's rock anthem 'Sympathy', to articulate the emotions people are feeling witnessing the atrocities of our world in her own unique smokey-jazz style.

She is donating all of the money earned from the sale of the song to Save the Children - which assists families with life-saving basics, from food and shelter to clothes.

Evelyn said: “Music can be such a powerful medium and offer a way for people to connect with their feelings in troubled times. The simple message of the song is we need to spread more love and compassion around the planet. All purchases made via the Bandcamp platform will be donated to Save the Children.”

The track is enhanced by cellist Tom McCluskey (Nexus, Jayce Lewis) and piano co-arrangements by Angus Lyon (Yusuf Islam/Cat Stevens, Bobby McFerrin) who also recorded the piece at his Biggar studio, Gran’s House, and mastering by Lauren Gilmour and Audrey Tait at Nova sound, Scotland’s first female owned music production house (Franz Ferdinand).

Sympathy came out on October, 4, in Bandcamp and on all streaming platforms.
