Find out about the magic of trees in Kirkcudbright's Barrhill woods

Youngsters can learn about the magic of trees in Kirkcudbright

Games, storytelling and crafting are on offer with artist and maker Kirsty Harries

Youngsters are being given the chance to hear what the trees in Kirkcudbright’s Barrhill woods have to say during the October holidays.

Games, storytelling and crafting are on offer on October 14 and 15 – which six to 12-year-old can enjoy while learning about the magic of trees.

The events are part of Dumfries and Galloway Woodlands’ half-term activities programme and are being led by artist and maker Kirsty Harries.

She said: “Did you know there are stories hidden in the trees? Come down to Barrhill woods this half term and hear what they have to say. You will have fun and create your own tales too.”

“These sessions are for children and families to get creative and crafty in the woods whilst learning about the magic of trees.

“There will be games, making and storytelling - plus you will learn how to become a tree whisperer!”

The Tree Tales events are being supported by Kirkcudbright Development Trust and backed by Dumfries and Galloway Woodlands, which aims to support trees, habitats and people that depend upon them.

McNabb Laurie of Dumfries and Galloway Woodlands said: “Woodlands are not just for a summer day.

“We are all learning that fresh air and time outside in nature through the winter months is vital for our health.

“These events will be fun, but also will give young people the skills to enjoy and appreciate woodlands all year round.

“We are, as always, so grateful to our supporters, with these events only possible thanks to our grant from The National Lottery Heritage Fund.”
