Outlander star Sam Heughan has revealed he used to “hide” and “silently scream” in a secret disabled toilet when he needed a break from the stress of filming.

The Scottish star is one half of the show’s iconic duo, portraying Highland warrior Jamie Fraser opposite Caitriona Balfe’s Claire Fraser.

Thousands of fans are eagerly awaiting the next half of season seven, the penultimate outing for the hit Starz show before the eighth and final season gets underway next year.

Heughan and the rest of the main cast recently made an appearance at New York Comic Con to preview what’s to come as well as reflect on more than a decade with the Fraser clan.

The secret hideout was brought up when producer Maril Davis suggested the Outlander sets could eventually be opened up to the public once the show is over.

Heughan would go and hide in a disabled toilet when things got too much

“One of the key parts of it is this disabled toilet that became my secret place where I would go to,” Heughan shared, prompting laughter from the crowd.

“Season one, if I needed a moment to hide and lock everyone away I would go there.

“And it’s so strange going there now after 11 years and just closing the door and taking a moment and silently screaming.

“No one knows about it, but this was my secret place. You can all go do a tour there and visit the disabled toilet.”

Heughan’s co-star Balfe looked extremely baffled and remarked: “I have so many questions!”

And Davis warned the actor: “I feel like this is too much info.”

When Balfe probed the Jamie Fraser star about the toilet’s whereabouts, he cryptically replied: “Do the tour and you’ll find out.”

Outlander will finally be back next month

“Did you bring anything in?” she questioned further. “Is there a TV mounted? A couple of newspapers, magazines?”

“There’s actually still bits of blood from season one in there,” Heughan claimed, quickly assuring Balfe “it’s fake blood! Fake”, when she pulled a disgusted face.

Earlier seasons would have provided plenty of opportunities for the Scottish star to get blood and grime everywhere as the show was building up to the pivotal Battle of Culloden.

Claire and Jamie then sought a quieter life in North Carolina, but their idyllic homestead has become the setting of plenty of uprisings and scandals as well as the approach of the American Revolution.

Season seven, part two will kick off with the Frasers having just arrived in Scotland to fulfil an important task.

Meanwhile, their daughter Brianna Fraser (Sophie Skelton) has been left stricken with worry in the 1980s while her husband Rober MacKenzie (Richard Rankin) heads back in time again to retrieve their abducted son.

Outlander season seven part two premieres on Friday, November 22, on MGM+ via Prime Video in the UK and on Starz in the US.
