Incredible poppy trails have been installed at two iconic Stewartry buildings.

The artworks have been created by crafters ahead of Remembrance Sunday.

The Kirkcudbright installation can be found on MacLellan’s Castle, with the Castle Douglas one at the town’s library and art gallery.

Irene Henry in Kirkcudbright – well known for her postbox toppers – decided the town should have a poppy trail to honour all those who served.

An appeal was launched to find 2,000 poppies and they came streaming in – with one person creating more than 500.

More than 6,000 were made and a squad of helpers sewed them on to backing material in the catholic church hall.

As well as red poppies, it also features purple flowers to remember animals who served in the war and some white as hope for peace in the world.

Historic Environment Scotland approved the project and installed the poppies on the castle on Friday.

The trail will remain throughout November and, along with a poignant silhouette of a soldier made by Andy Campbell, will form a fitting backdrop.

The Castle Douglas installation features more than 1,400 poppies thanks to the work of Angela Orro and the crafters who attend her sessions. They were then sewn to mesh and hung by firefighters from Castle Douglas Fire Station.
