They took second place in the young people’s category, recognising their work in involving local youngsters and community members aged under 24 in their work, as well as being highly commended in the engagement category to “create positive and long-lasting benefits”.

It follows their success in similarly winning the youth category and being named runners-up for community involvement at the recent Beautiful Scotland awards.

Cambuslang group Friends of Holmhills Wood community park werealso highly commended in the gardening for wildlife category at the new RHS ceremony, recognising “the work groups are doing to make the spaces they care for wildlife-friendly”.

They were among 14 groups from across Scotland who are members of the climate and nature-friendly communities network who were nominated by judges for the new awards.

Juliette Camburn of Keep Scotland Beautiful said, “Volunteer assessors and judges saw excellent practices across the country. Every group thoroughly deserves their awards and recognition, and their collective efforts to make Scotland more beautiful are immensely appreciated.

“We’re facing climate and nature crises and everyone must play their part to halt biodiversity loss and to protect and enhance nature – the efforts of the groups and all involved in their communities is truly inspiring.”
