Yorgos Lanthimos’ ‘Bugonia’ Will Stream on Peacock Next Week

by · Bloody Disgusting

After hitting physical media on Tuesday, Bugonia will begin streaming on Peacock next Friday, December 26.

From director Yorgos Lanthimos (Poor Things, The Killing of a Sacred Deer), the genre-bending sci-fi black comedy psychological thriller stars Emma Stone and Jesse Plemons.

It follows two conspiracy-obsessed young men who kidnap a powerful CEO they believe is an alien out to destroy humanity. What begins as a paranoid act spirals into a clash of delusions and control.

After the pair chain her in a basement and come face-to-face with the enemy, the two sides — the tinfoil-hat basement dwellers and the steely, soulless corporate executive — soon find themselves pitched in a battle as viscerally unpredictable as it is provocative.

Will Tracy (The Menu) penned the script, based on Jang Joon-Hwan’s 2003 South Korean film Save the Green Planet.

Aidan Delbis, Stavros Halkias, and Alicia Silverstone round out the cast.

Ari Aster (Hereditary, Midsommar) produces alongside Lanthimos, Stone, Ed Guiney, Andrew Lowe, Lars Knudsen, Miky Lee, and Jerry Kyoungboum Ko.

Bugonia is nominated for three Golden Globe Awards and three Critics Choice Awards. It’s also on the Academy Awards shortlist for Cinematography and Original Score.

Meagan Navarro wrote in her review, “The sardonic, genre-bending satire takes aim at modern echo chambers and their erosion of humanity. Lanthimos’ signature ability to skew reality with absurdist humor and style belies a cynical condemnation of our self-destructive nature.”
