Ryan Gosling Meets an Alien in ‘Project Hail Mary’ Clip

Ryan Gosling learns to communicate with an eyeless alien named Rocky in the new clip from Project Hail Mary.

“It’s the most incredible theatrical experience,” Gosling says in the accompanying featurette. “It’s about how miracles are possible, as long as you don’t give up hope.”

Filmed for IMAX, the epic sci-fi adventure launches into theaters and premium large formats on March 20 via Amazon MGM Studios.

Based on the 2021 novel by Andy Weir (The Martian), Phil Lord & Christopher Miller (The LEGO Movie, 21 Jump Street) direct from a script by Drew Goddard (The Cabin in the Woods, The Martian).

In the film, science teacher Ryland Grace wakes up on a spaceship light years from home with no recollection of who he is or how he got there. As his memory returns, he begins to uncover his mission: solve the riddle of the mysterious substance causing the sun to die out.

He must call on his scientific knowledge and unorthodox ideas to save everything on Earth from extinction… but an unexpected friendship means he may not have to do it alone.

Sandra Hüller, Lionel Boyce, Ken Leung, and Milana Vayntrub round out the cast.

Lord, Miller, Gosling, and Weir produce alongside Amy Pascal, Aditya Sood, and Rachel O’Connor. Executive producers include Goddard, Patricia Whitcher, Sarah Esberg, Lucy Kitada, Nikki Baida, and Ken Kao.
