From directors Scott Beck and Bryan Woods, A24 released Heretic in theaters nationwide beginning last night. A24’s latest big screen horror villain? Hugh Grant!
Hugh Grant (D&D: Honor Among Thieves), Chloe East (The Fabelmans) and Sophie Thatcher (“Yellowjackets”) lead the cast of A24’s new horror movie. In the film…
“Two young missionaries are forced to prove their faith when they knock on the wrong door and are greeted by Mr. Reed, becoming ensnared in his deadly game of cat-and-mouse.”
Heretic made its world premiere back in September at TIFF, which resulted in the first online reviews. One thing that critics agreed on: Hugh Grant shines as the devious Mr. Reed.
Scott Beck and Bryan Woods wrote A Quiet Place with director John Krasinski, and they just wrote/directed the high concept Adam Driver dinosaur movie 65 last year. The duo also wrote/directed Haunt and penned the Stephen King horror film The Boogeyman.
From Shudder, Sony Pictures Television and Stolen Pictures comes Black Cab, a supernatural horror movie starring Nick Frost (Shaun of the Dead) that’s now streaming on Shudder.
Nick Frost will play “an erratic cab driver” in the Shudder Original movie from director Bruce Goodison (Murdered By My Father, Leave To Remain, Then Barbara Met Alan).
In Black Cab, “When Anne (Synnøve Karlsen) and Patrick (Luke Norris) hail a black cab after a night out their driver (Nick Frost) is chatty, jovial even, but they are in no mood to talk. In fact, the couple is barely on speaking terms. That is, until they realize the driver has no intention of taking them home.
“Locked in the cab with no means of escape, the driver transports the couple to a stretch of deserted and supposedly haunted road. But what is his purpose? Is he mad or just plain evil? And why has he selected Anne and Patrick as his victims?”
David Michael Emerson and Virginia Gilbert wrote the screenplay.
Set in the post-apocalyptic Rocky Mountains, director George Nolfi’s (The Banker) Elevation was released into theaters nationwide courtesy of Vertical today, November 8.
Anthony Mackie, Morena Baccarin, and Maddie Hasson star in Elevation, which looks to be another A Quiet Place type movie that also calls to mind this year’s Arcadian.
In the new monster movie, “A single father (Anthony Mackie) and two women venture from the safety of their homes to face monstrous creatures to save the life of a young boy.”
Here’s the full official synopsis: “The world has changed. The only habitable place left for humanity is in the high mountains, above 8000 feet. Go below 8000 feet, and waiting for you are the very creatures that killed 95% of the human population less than three years ago. But what happens if — to save the life of his young son — a father (Anthony Mackie) is forced to do just that: to venture below “The Line” with two others, a scientist he despises (Morena Baccarin), but who just might hold the key to defeating the monsters, and a young woman (Maddie Hasson), determined to keep them both alive long enough to save the human race.”
John Glenn, Jacob Roman, and Kenny Ryan wrote the screenplay.
Writer/Director Jérémy Clapin, whose 2019 animated debut I Lost My Body earned an Academy Award nomination, makes the jump to live-action with the sci-fi thriller Meanwhile on Earth. Metrograph Pictures released the film in theaters beginning today.
In the film, “Elsa (Megan Northam), along with her family, is struggling following the disappearance of her brother Franck, an astronaut who vanished during his first mission.
“Stargazing one night, Elsa is shocked to receive contact from Franck, but her joy is short-lived when she learns of the dark and troubling forces behind Franck’s reappearance, forcing her to confront the lengths she will go for the brother she once feared was gone forever.”
It may also be worth noting that Clapin’s sophomore effort was edited by Jean-Christophe Bouzy, Titane and Raw filmmaker Julia Ducournau’s longtime film editor. Robrecht Heyvaert (Revenge) is the film’s cinematographer.
A couple returning from their engagement party must escape a sinister and seemingly endless road in Drive Back, which is now playing in select theaters and available on Digital outlets.
From the producers of The Gallows, Drive Back was directed by Cody Ashford.
Crystal Foster, Zack Gold, Tammy Kaitz, Whit Kunschik, and Robert Lewis Stephenson star.
Jon Sarro wrote the script for Drive Back.
