Park Chan-Wook’s ‘The Brigands of Rattlecreek’ to Star Matthew McConaughey, Austin Butler, Pedro Pascal
by Alex DiVincenzo · Bloody DisgustingAfter being attached to the project for over a decade, Park Chan-Wook (Oldboy, Stoker) has set The Brigands of Rattlecreek as his next film.
Matthew McConaughey (Interstellar), Austin Butler (Dune: Part Two), Pedro Pascal (“The Last of Us”), and Tang Wei (Decision to Leave) are set to star in the Western revenge thriller.
S. Craig Zahler (Bone Tomahawk) wrote the original screenplay, on which Park did revisions. It follows a sheriff and a doctor who seek revenge against a group of bandits who use the cover of a torrential thunderstorm to rob and terrorize the occupants of a small town.
“The story will alight on themes central to Park’s oeuvre of vengeance, retribution, the consequences of violence and the power of memory and family, but this time in the American West,” Deadline notes.
Park produces for Moho Film alongside Bradley Fischer (Shutter Island, Zodiac). Executive producers include Jisun Back, Mike Medavoy, and Georgia Kacandes.
Patrick Wachsberger’s Legendary label 193 will represent sales at next month’s Cannes film market.
Deadline writes, “Despite being available (for now) in the indie space, the project’s scope remains impressive and we hear the budget is being pegged north of $60 million.”
Park’s most recent film, the black comedy thriller No Other Choice, arrived on Hulu last week.
