GTA 6 PC release planned for early 2027, report claims, which could mean we're playing in time for GTA Online 2: Vice City 4 U or whatever they call it

· Rock Paper ShotgunWell, that's happening quicker than I'd anticipated. This is both what the actress said to the bishop and my immediate reaction to a report which claims GTA 6 is planned to release on PC in the opening months of 2027. That'd put it a scant matter of months behind the initial release for console on November 19th, but far less than the year or so folks like me had assumed based on how Rockstar handled GTA 5.
According to the report from GamesBeat, which cites "four industry sources familiar with the studio’s plans", the first three months of 2027 make up the window during which Rockstar intend to bring Grandma Stealy Wheely 6 to PC. That'd mean it launched by the end of March at the latest, pending any delays. The site asked Rockstar themselves for comment, but said the publishers didn't reply ahead of publication.
If accurate, it'd certainly take the sting out of the game seeming like it won't be eligible for some cloud streaming to PC when it debuts elsewhere in November. As for why Rockstar would position a PC port in this weird middle ground between that initial launch and the year-on point, the latter of which at least makes more sense from a 'try to get this a second sales bump so it's doing big things for our financial books two years running' perspective, the desire to get as many people as possible in ahead of GTA 6's inevitable post-launch GTA Online component also sounds prudent.
In September, Twitch CEO Dan Clancy hinted that he expected such a multiplayer element to launch at some point in 2027. His word's nowhere near official confirmation, but given the cash cow status of GTA 5's version of GTA Online, getting that moolah rolling in relatively sharpish would make sense for a studio keen to start reaping the full benefits of finally releasing their latest behemoth. To do so, you've got to include the PC folks whom Take-Two boss Strauss Zelnick has admitted are more important to the bottom lines of companies like his than they used to be.
I can see the logic. On the other hand, you've got sceptics like RPS boss Jules, who saw this report and was firm in his stance that he won't believe GTA 6 is turning up on his machine in such short order until protagonist Jason's naked body is right there on his monitor, rendered in all of the glory only a PC could manage.
Sadly, if this news does lead to a GTA 6 PC release date being locked in, that'll leave The Sopranos: Road to Respect with a huge gulf behind it on the list of highly anticipated crime sims currently without a PC release date. Late 2027 sounds like it might be open after all, 7 Studios. You know what to do.
