George Clooney, Robert Pattinson expected on the red carpet at Venice Film Festival

"Slumdog Millionaire" director Danny Boyle will open the festival with his new film "Ink", which tracks the rise of Rupert Murdoch to media magnate.

Also in competition, Robert Pattinson teams up with an indie filmmaker for his latest film "Primetime" (pictured), about a US reality show centered on sting operations to catch paedophiles. Meanwhile, George Clooney will be honoured with a lifetime achievement award, the Golden Lion.
