Kakata, Margibi County—In recognition of her contributions to education and community development, Dr. Nancy T. Freeman, Principal and Chief Executive Officer of the Booker Washington Institute (BWI) in Kakata, has been honored as one of the Africa Women Awards’ 100 Most Influential African Women for 2024.

Organized annually by Business Executive Media, the Africa Women Awards celebrate women across the continent for their remarkable achievements and positive impact on their communities and societies.

The awards aim to promote affirmative action and empower women, encouraging their contributions to Africa’s advancement.

Dr. Freeman received her award virtually on November 26, 2024, during a gala event held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

She was recognized for her longstanding dedication to the educational sector, where she has served as a teacher, school proprietress, and administrator.

In an interview with FrontPage Africa, Dr. Freeman expressed her surprise at receiving such an esteemed accolade. “What we do in life requires humility and proficiency. People are watching you from all angles,” she stated, emphasizing the importance of leading by example.

She termed the award as a source of national pride, saying, “I am truly humbled to be recognized as one of the most influential women on the African continent. This award is about the positive impact one has made, not just financial success. To be among 100 selected women in Africa is a glory to God, and I will continue my commitment to humanity.”

Reflecting on her journey, Dr. Freeman remarked, “This award is a fulfillment of God’s promise. I come from humble beginnings, and I am grateful for where God has taken me all these years.”

She encouraged emerging women leaders and young girls to be mindful of their actions, as they are often observed by others.

Dr. Freeman also urged parents to be vigilant in nurturing their children, highlighting the influence parents have as role models.

Also, she said the recognition received has further inspired her to pursue her calling with renewed passion, vowing to remain dedicated to her work for as long as she has breath.
