A Facebook Live video circulating on social media shows LDEA officers entering the musician’s premises at dawn. In the footage, Bucky Raw and several individuals can be heard hurling profanities in both English and Gio (Dahn) as officers made their way through the compound.
Those inside the residence initially attempted to prevent the officers from entering, accusing the LDEA agents of being drug users and drunken officers acting under false pretenses. Minutes later, the agents forced their way in to conduct a search.
The video shows Bucky Raw kneeling on the floor, untying black plastic bags stuffed with large amounts of cash while LDEA officers stood over him demanding explanations. Another black plastic bag displayed by agents contained a substance believed to be marijuana, though the LDEA has not yet confirmed the type or quantity of the substance seized.
The rapper and others found at the residence were immediately taken into custody for questioning.
Friday’s raid marks the latest twist in the tumultuous public life of Bucky Raw, who was deported from the United States in April 2018 for violations of U.S. law. Since returning home, he has revitalized his music career and built a strong youth following, while also positioning himself as a vocal critic of Liberia’s drug crisis—leading and participating in several anti-drug demonstrations in Monrovia.
