Welsh singing star Bonnie Tyler is in a stable condition in a Portuguese hospital following emergency intestinal surgery last week.

"As of this morning, Bonnie remains seriously ill but stable in hospital in Faro, however, her doctors are still positive that she will make a full recovery," Tyler's spokesman told the BBC.

"When there is any further news of Bonnie's condition, then we will issue another statement," he added.

The Total Eclipse of the Heart singer, 74, was taken to hospital on Wednesday and placed in an induced coma following the operation. Fans have posted comments under a post on Bonnie Tyler's Facebook page wishing her well.

Fans from around the world have sent encouraging messages, including those who have undergone similar surgery.

On Friday, a post on the singer's Facebook page thanked people for the "incredible outpouring of love and well wishes we've received for Bonnie over the last few days. It truly means the world".

Messages of support came from her guitarist Ed Poole, who said he and the rest of the band "are hoping and praying that she pulls through".

Katrina Leskanich from Katrina and the Waves posted: "Dearest Bonnie. Make a speedy recovery and come back rocking! We love you."

I Will Survive singer Gloria Gaynor wrote: "Wishing you a swift recovery, Bonnie!"

Tyler, who grew up in Neath, is best known for her huge power ballad hit Total Eclipse of the Heart, which was released in 1983. It made it to number one on both the US and UK charts.

Earlier this year, the song surpassed a billion streams on Spotify.

Tyler also represented the UK at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2013, finishing 19th out of 26 acts, and was made an MBE for her services to music in 2023.
