Katy Perry’s new album 143 debuts on the Billboard charts this week after months of promotion. While the singles from the project haven’t reached the same heights as much of her past work, fans turned out to make the full-length a hit upon its arrival.

143 nearly brought Perry to No. 1 on several rankings in the U.S., though the set misses out on the highest rung by just one space on at least two tallies. The same musician blocks her from running the show on both of them, and it’s impressive to see a newcomer beat one of the biggest pop stars of all time.

Chappell Roan’s The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess surges to No. 1 on two Billboard rosters this frame. The project jumps to the top spot on both the Top Album Sales and Vinyl Albums charts this week. This frame marks the title’s first at No. 1 on the former, and its second on top of the latter.

Perry’s 143 debuts in second place on both of those rankings. She’s reached the summit on the Top Album Sales chart before—multiple times, in fact—but she’s never managed to rule the Vinyl Albums tally. The Grammy nominee came closer than ever to dominating that format-specific ranking, but she couldn’t best Roan this time around.

The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess sees its sales sum surge by more than 300% this week following its release on multiple types of vinyl. Roan’s debut full-length sold another 56,000 copies in the past tracking week, according to Billboard, which easily outpaces the 37,500 copies 143 sold in the same timeframe.

143 opens at No. 6 on the Billboard 200, earning Perry another top 10 hit. The dance-pop project shifted 48,000 equivalent units in its debut tracking period.

The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, meanwhile, moved 105,000 equivalent units, including sales and streaming activity. That figure pushes Roan’s studio effort to the runner-up rung on the Billboard 200, where it returns to its all-time peak. This week, it lands behind only Future’s Mixtape Pluto, which debuts at No. 1.
