Katy Perry Lands Her First Top 10 Hit On One Of Billboard’s Charts
by Hugh McIntyre · ForbesKaty Perry is no stranger to the top 10 on the Billboard charts. The singer spent years as one of the most reliable hitmakers in the global music industry, collecting dozens of smashes that reached the loftiest tier on many of the company’s competitive lists. As a new ranking is introduced, it launches with Perry inside the uppermost space, which seems fitting based on her success in the genres it focuses on.
Billboard introduces the Hot Dance/Pop Songs chart this week. The tally–the first new one from the music magazine in some time–lists the most-consumed tracks that are classified as “dance/pop,” based on a methodology that includes streams, sales, and radio airplay. Only those musicians not usually associated with electronic music are eligible, which means many of the biggest pop stars may soon find a home on this roster.
Perry is part of the inaugural Hot Dance/Pop Songs chart class, as she earns her initial top 10 hit on the tally the moment it was published for the first time. “I’m His He’s Mine” helps introduce the American public to the tally, as it appears at No. 9 this frame.
“I’m His He’s Mine” is not only Perry’s first top 10–or hit of any kind–on the 15-space roster. Credited musician Doechii, who lends her vocals to the cut, also collects an important smash on the Hot Dance/Pop Songs chart as well…though unlike the superstar that fronts the tune, she’s not limited to a single win.
Doechii manages to appear twice on the Hot Dance/Pop Songs ranking this week. Just three spaces further down on the first edition of the chart comes her own “Alter Ego,” which opens at No. 12, helping rapper JT also land on the list as well.

“I’m His He’s Mine” performs best on the new chart this week, as it’s only managed to become a minor hit on other Billboard tallies. Currently, it’s up one rung to No. 38 on the Pop Airplay chart, where it’s peaked at No. 26 in the past. The collaboration never reached the Hot 100.
Perry is one of 20 musicians who reach the Hot Dance/Pop Songs chart in its first frame. She joins fellow superstars like Billie Eilish, Ariana Grande, and The Weeknd with top 10 smashes.
