‘Deadpool And Wolverine’ Gets An Imminent Disney Plus Release Date
by Paul Tassi · ForbesDisney has decided that it’s time to bring its biggest movie of the year to Disney Plus itself, and has announced when Deadpool and Wolverine will be released on the service.
It’s soon, so don’t go paying big bucks for a rental right now. The Deadpool and Wolverine Disney Plus release date is November 12, three and a half months after it debuted in theaters. Not a bad turnaround time, honestly.
Despite being the only MCU movie released in 2024, though it’s more of an undead FOX movie, technically, Deadpool and Wolverine did insane numbers at the box office, setting an all-time record for an R-rated movie. It is actually the 20th highest grossing movie of all time at $1.33 billion around the globe, and that also makes it the sixth highest-earning MCU movie, an exceptionally impressive feat. Here’s the top 10 list:
- Avengers: Infinity War – $2.05 billion
- Spider-Man: No Way Home - $1.95 billion
- The Avengers - $1.52 billion
- Avengers: Age of Ultron - $1.4 billion
- Black Panther - $1.34 billion
- Deadpool and Wolverine - $1.33 billion
- Iron Man 3 - $1.26 billion
- Captain America: Civil War - $1.15 billion
- Spider-Man: Far From Home - $1.132 billion
- Captain Marvel - $1.131 billion
An interesting list there, honestly. No surprise that all three Avengers movies are there, plus Civil War, which was sort of a mini Avengers movie by itself. No Way Home did enormous numbers with the promise of Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire Spider-Men returning, as that was not exactly a secret. Black Panther is the highest debut solo film by a good margin. It remains pretty stunning to me that Captain Marvel made $1.13 billion as it was frankly…not great. And it’s a tragedy the much better The Marvels was a disaster, earning only a fraction of that at $206 million. That’s just insane to me, though it was simply the wrong movie released at the wrong time.
As for the MCU going forward, we have Captain America: Brave New World, Thunderbolts and the all-important Fantastic Four next year, where Deadpool and Wolverine was flying solo in 2024. Will any of those gross a billion? My guess is that Fantastic Four will, but I don’t think the others will reach that. Maybe I’m wrong, and that’s not to say those other films won’t be good, but a non-Steve Rogers Cap movie is a tough sell at baseline, and while the Thunderbolts trailer is great, it’s still a movie made up of B and C list antiheroes/villains, mainly. We’ll see. For now, get ready to re-watch Deadpool and Wolverine in two weeks here.
