The five-star Saxon Hotel, Villas, and Spa in Johannesburg, South Africa has recently completed a comprehensive renovation in key areas of the property. Celebrating 24 years of luxury, the Saxon Hotel, Villas and Spa is located in the well-heeled suburb of Sandhurst, just minutes from Johannesburg's shopping and business centers. Part of the World's Leading Boutique Hotel since 2001, it offers exceptional accommodation and dining experiences.

The property’s recent renovations focused on key area of the hotel, like the lobby, public spaces, the reception area and restaurants. Overseen by acclaimed South African designer Nelson Kubheka, the renovations highlight the cultural, creative and unique heritage of Johannesburg.

"Inclusive design has been a cornerstone of this project," says Kubheka. "It underscores the significance of local craftsmanship and collaboration. By partnering closely with local contractors, furniture makers, tilers, and painters, we have woven together a cohesive narrative that exemplifies how diverse skills and disciplines can converge to breathe life into an idea. The result is a vibrant, elegant space that pays homage to the past while embracing the future."

Now, peppered throughout the hotel, is a carefully curated series of artwork that was hand-picked from the respected Spier art collection. Pieces, which are from celebrated artists like Samson Mnisi, Lisette Forsyth, and Qhama Maswana, showcase the rich creativity and diversity of the South African art scene.

Each artwork has been thoughtfully selected to enhance the hotel's atmosphere, providing guests with a visual exploration of the nation's cultural landscape. Demonstrating the hotel’s commitment to local talent, these artworks will be updated quarterly to keep pace with and accurately reflect the evolving stories of South African art.

Guests entering the revitalized property will now be greeted by an all-new lobby lounge that focuses on comfort and personalized service. The reception area has been moved to a more secluded space, offering an exclusive atmosphere from the moment guests arrive. Decorated with warm tones and luxurious marble accents, this sophisticated, relaxing area puts guests at ease and invites them to check in with style.

The Olive Bar has doubled in size and now features a wrap-around bar and intimate lounge areas, creating a sophisticated environment for enjoying signature cocktails and light meals. The design includes elegant details like a striking bar display with light marble and bespoke lighting. The Piano Lounge has been redesigned to provide a tranquil space for enjoying tea, breakfast, or intimate gatherings.
