Rosé Of Blackpink Is The First K-Pop Soloist To Break Into The Top 10 On One Billboard Chart
by Hugh McIntyre · ForbesRosé’s winning streak continues this week in America as “Apt.” rises once again on one Billboard chart. As the Blackpink superstar’s solo smash climbs, it helps her manage a feat that no other soloist from her part of the world has ever accomplished in the U.S.
“Apt.” enters the top 10 on the Radio Songs chart this week, placing between Nos. 1 and 10 for the first time. The single pushes from No. 18 to No. 10, and it makes history as it narrowly cracks the uppermost tier on the highly competitive list.
Rosé is the first solo artist known primarily for making K-pop music to reach the top 10 on the Radio Songs chart. The singer is actually originally from New Zealand, but she spent years building her career as one-fourth of Blackpink, one of the most successful names in the South Korean music industry and a force in the K-pop genre.
“Apt.” helps Rosé pass Psy, who previously held the record for the loftiest placement by any soloist hailing from South Korea on Billboard’s list of the tracks that reach the largest audience across the country via the airwaves. His breakout smash “Gangnam Style” peaked at No. 12 more than a decade ago. Until now, no solo K-pop star had approached that position.
Only one other K-pop musical act has reached the top 10 on the Radio Songs chart in the past. BTS broke barriers when their single “Dynamite” soared to tenth place several years ago. Now, Rosé is tied with the septet, though they may not remain on the same level for very long.

“Apt.” is still growing in popularity in many respects, and the coming weeks may be huge for Rosé’s single. Next week, when Christmas songs fall away again from the Billboard charts—which is expected after the holiday passes—several tracks may be able to improve their standing on a number of rankings, including the Radio Songs list.
Rosé is a huge star in her own right, but “Apt.” isn’t succeeding solely thanks to her popularity. The tune is a duet between her and radio favorite Bruno Mars, who has long been a favorite among DJs and programmers in the U.S. His name is likely enough to keep the track climbing, at least for a little while longer.
