A Strange Update About ‘Wednesday’ Season 2 Ahead Of Its Release Date

Wednesday has attracted an eccentric cast from the start, but it may be about to add its most unusual member yet for season 2. That would be none other than Lady Gaga, who is reportedly joining season 2 in some sort of unspecified role. Some reports say a cameo, others more than that, but no details or confirmation from Netflix yet. Variety said they tried to get her for a larger part, but she wasn’t available for more.

There has been a dark cloud around Gaga’s acting career given her prominent role in Joker: Folie a Deux, the disastrous, critic-hated, fan-hated, money-losing sequel to one of the most profitable R-rated films of all time. She was the latest iteration of the popular Harley Quinn, and while it was certainly not her performance that sunk the film, she was attached to the whole thing, like it or not.

Gaga is obviously known mainly for her music, but she has certainly had some standout acting roles including House of Gucci and A Star is Born. I was trying to find the first time she was in a big movie and that appears to be Men in Black 3 where she played an uncredited “Alien on TV Monitors.” Not to be outdone by her first ever role, “Girl at Swimming Pool #2” on The Sopranos in 2001. She’s come a long way.

Gaga, other than perhaps sharing something of an aesthetic with Wednesday, also has the tenuous connection of her song, Bloody Mary, being used in social media clips of Wednesday’s famous season 1 dance, despite that not actually being the song she danced to on the show. But it certainly fit. We do not know if her role on the show is a musical one or not, though when she appears on screen in big-name projects well, there’s usually singing involved.

Gaga joins another new cast member, Steve Buscemi, signed on for a large part in season 2. We don’t know about his role either, though more generally, it’s been said that Wednesday’s family will be playing a more prominent role in season 2 rather than just showing up for an episode or two.

As for Wednesday season 2’s release date, we are indeed staring down the barrel of three years between season 1 and 2, part pandemic, part Jenna Ortega being busy, part every streaming series taking way too long to make now. With filming in Ireland ongoing, best estimates put the Wednesday season 2 release date somewhere in the tail end of 2025, likely late fall or early winter with post-production taken into account. Hopefully it will not slip into 2026.
