A TRIO of world-famous storytellers are set to be part at this year’s Jersey Festival of Words.

The annual event has grown steadily since launching in 2015 and features author readings, poetry, and storytelling across various venues, including the Jersey Opera House, the Arts Centre and the Library.

This year, three former Children’s Laureates are set to return to the festival – Michael Morpurgo, Michael Rosen and Chris Riddell – will be returning to the Island to speak at the Freedom Centre in St Helier.

On 25 September, Michael Morpurgo will arrive in Jersey to discuss his new book – marking his third visit to the Island.

On the same day, Michael Rosen will discuss his five-decade long career, which has seen him write more than 200 books. The following day, spoken-word artist and performer Christian Foley will join him for The Poetry Playground, described as a family event of raps, rhymes, and riddles.

Chris Riddell will complete the trio at an event on Saturday 26 September, accompanying Jersey’s John Henry Falle – known as the Story Beast. Mr Riddell will be live-drawing at two other events for as part of the school programme.

“Not only is it a privilege to host this remarkable ‘gathering of laureates’, but it also feels like a landmark moment for the festival to have all three appearing as part of the same programme,” said festival director Pippa Le Quesne.

“Michael Morpurgo, Michael Rosen and Chris Riddell have each won major literary honours during their careers, and their books have brought enormous joy to children and adults alike. I would urge everyone to come to see them — they are among the very best live performers on the festival circuit, and their events are utterly spellbinding.”
