BERGERAC is set to reach “an even wider audience” with the first season of the revamped detective drama making its way to BBC One this summer.

Executive producer Brian Constantine said the news came in the wake of “strong sales” across America, Asia and Europe and “hugely encouraging” support for the series.

It also marks somewhat of a homecoming for the show, as the original version – that was created by Robert Banks Stewart and starred John Nettles – ran on BBC One between 1981 and 1991.

The new Bergerac’s debut season drew 2.4 million viewers across U and U&DRAMA in 2025, while a second series was launched last month.

Economic Development Minister Kirsten Morel also revealed earlier this year that negotiations were already taking place regarding financial support for a third outing.

Mr Constantine said: “Following the record-breaking response from viewers on U and U&DRAMA, we’re delighted that Bergerac season one will now reach an even wider audience on BBC One this summer.”

He continued: “Alongside strong sales across America, Asia and Europe, the support for the series so far has been hugely encouraging, and it’s a proud moment for everyone at Westward Studios to see this new chapter of Bergerac continue its journey with viewers across the British Isles.”

The show stars Damien Molony in the lead role of Jim Bergerac and, according to the government’s Better Business Support Package 2025 Delivery Report, was cited by one in ten holidaymakers to Jersey last year as having influenced their decision to come to the Island.
