JERSEY is on course to shatter its all-time temperature record this week, with forecasters now predicting highs of 38°C on Wednesday.
If reached, the temperature would surpass the current record of 37.9°C, set during the heatwave of July 2022.
Before that, Jersey’s highest recorded temperature had been 36°C, a mark first set in 2003 and equalled in 2009.
The latest forecast comes as the Island prepares for an intense spell of heat, with temperatures expected to remain in the mid-30s over the coming days and concerns growing over the impact on schools, vulnerable Islanders and water supplies.
Pupils across the Island have been advised to wear summer uniforms and PE kits to keep cool, and several schools have taken the decision to close around lunchtime.
Wednesday’s forecast would place Jersey among the hottest locations in north-west Europe and comfortably above the Island’s previous June temperature record of 33.4°C.
