What to watch this weekend: Matthew Rhys is the mayor of a cursed town and ‘Wuthering Heights’ comes to streaming

by · Android Police

What should you watch this weekend? It might not be the eternal question, but it is an old one.

There are too many choices on streaming and faced with them, it’s easy to fall into a comfort watch. But even the most comfortable things can wear thin after a while.

So I’ve done the work of sorting through what’s new and by giving you less to choose from, the more likely you might be to watch one of them.

Widow’s Bay (Apple TV)

Matthew Rhys plays a mayor who wants to draw tourists to the island of Widow’s Bay so that they can visit the local haunts. The problem is that the place is actually haunted and, even worse, likely cursed.

Man on Fire (Netflix)

This is the third adaptation of the novel “Man on Fire” and the first that’s a limited series instead of a film. A former special forces agent is trying to get past his PTSD when he takes a job in Rio. Instead he’s thrown into a situation where he has to protect the daughter of his mentor whose life is in jeopardy after she witnesses a crime.

The House of the Spirits (Prime Video)

Isabel Allende’s magical realist classic “The House of the Spirits” has been turned into a beautiful series. The story spans many generations of the Trueba family set against turbulent times in Chile.

Wuthering Heights (HBO Max)

The debate about whether Emerald Fennell’s version of “Wuthering Heights” was in the spirit of the book or was something entirely removed from it has just settled down in time for the film to make its streaming debut. You can make up your own mind as you take in the moody moors and an even moodier Jacob Elordi.

Swapped (Netflix)

A tiny woodland creature and a powerfully large bird get Freaky Friday’d in the delightful animated film “Swapped.” After trading wings for legs and vice versa, the pair (played by Michael B. Jordan and Juno Temple) set out on a journey to find themselves.
