Magnus Kirt: The Comeback

Kai Art Centre, Tallinn

Monday, 12 October, from 6pm

Magnus Kirt: The Comeback tells the extraordinary story of Estonia’s javelin star, from a hard-working youngster to world number one, before a devastating shoulder injury at the 2019 World Championships in Doha changes everything. What follows is no feel-good sporting comeback, but a raw, deeply human tale of painful surgeries, fresh setbacks and an Olympic dream slipping away.

How do you keep going when hard work no longer guarantees success? And what does a comeback mean when you can never quite be the athlete you once were? Director Steiv Silm introduces the screening, followed by a conversation with Kirt himself.

Banff Mountain Film Festival 2026

Apollo Cinema Solaris, Tallinn

From Wednesday, 14 October to Thursday, 15 October

The Banff Mountain Film Festival is back in Estonia for its fifth year, bringing a spectacular evening of outdoor adventure to the big screen. Expect jaw-dropping expeditions, extraordinary feats of endurance and enough mountain scenery to make you want to pack your hiking boots immediately. This year’s five-film line-up takes audiences from the frozen cliffs of Baffin Island to wild mountain biking trails, with a dose of cinematic meditation along the way.

The programme features A Baffin Vacation: Love on Ice (Canada, 26 min), The Finisher (USA, 47 min), Mandala (France, 6 min), One Step Ahead (Canada, 14 min) and Reel Rock: Riders on the Storm (USA, 28 min). All films are screened in their original languages with Estonian and English subtitles.

Organ Night

Charles’s Church, Tallinn

Friday 16 October, from 8pm

Night of Organ Music promises a thrilling evening of classical music on a monumental scale, with Estonia’s largest church organ, a mighty Walcker instrument, taking centre stage. Expect everything from the spine-tingling drama of Bach’s Toccata in D minor and Orff’s O Fortuna to Grieg’s In the Hall of the Mountain King, Böllmann’s Suite Gothique and a striking arrangement of Schubert’s Erlkönig.

Organist Ilona Birgele is joined by violinist Yuri Savkin, cellist Irina Vylegzhanina and percussionist Virdžīnija Laube-Vītiņa for a performance that ranges from delicate musical detail to full-throttle, church-shaking grandeur. Atmospheric lighting adds to the drama, turning this 80-minute concert into a feast for the eyes as well as the ears.

MängudeÖÖ 2026

T1 Venue & Cinamon Cinema, Tallinn

From Saturday, 17 October, to Sunday, 18 October

MängudeÖÖ, Estonia’s legendary gaming night, is back with a bumper programme of digital thrills, retro nostalgia and plenty of real-world action. Expect live entertainment, actual rally cars, virtual racing experiences and live recordings of popular Estonian podcasts.

Geography buffs can put their knowledge to the test in a competitive GeoGuessr tournament, while old-school gamers can relive the glory days of Colin McRae Rally 2000 and Richard Burns Rally. New this year is a dedicated games industry conference, featuring talks and workshops on everything from game development to marketing. Whether you’re a hardcore gamer, a casual button-basher or simply curious about gaming culture, there’s plenty to get stuck into.

Screening: Your Name

Kai Art Centre, Tallinn

Sunday, 18 October from 2pm

Your Name, Makoto Shinkai’s dazzling anime phenomenon, returns to the big screen to celebrate its tenth anniversary. One of Japan’s biggest cinematic hits, this beautifully animated blend of romance, fantasy and mystery follows two teenagers whose lives become mysteriously intertwined.

Mitsuha is a small-town girl dreaming of Tokyo, while Taki is a city boy who suddenly finds himself experiencing life through someone else’s eyes. When the pair begin inexplicably swapping bodies, a charmingly chaotic adventure unfolds into something far more profound. Visually stunning, emotionally captivating and full of unexpected twists, Your Name is a modern anime classic best experienced on the big screen. Screened in Japanese with Estonian subtitles.
